The kind of neglect you described led to grooming and sexual abuse, horrific risk taking behaviours where I looked for the love (that was never evident at home) in all the wrong places, and alongside the kind of psychological abuse you have described, gave me a wealth of trauma that I am still dealing with as an adult. I may have looked outwardly “successful” as an adult - “tough” really, as I went on to become a courtroom litigator and gained a couple of masters degrees. But I am farking still dealing with the psychological and health issues - consequences of a childhood very much like that you’ve just described - as I now head towards my 40th. I have four kids of my own and there’s a reason my generation doesn’t glorify the kind of abuse you’ve written so candidly about here.
